A faith-rooted home for community change.
Al Maa'uun Houston exists to spread positive community change through four disciplined practices: education that frees the mind, coalition building that multiplies our power, grassroots organizing that turns neighbors into leaders, and action plan development and deployment that turns vision into wins. Our name comes from Sūrat al-Maa'uun — the chapter that warns against neglecting the orphan, turning away the needy, and performing prayer without justice. We organize so the prayer of our people is matched by the practice of our hands.

Faith-rooted organizing
We believe organizing is a spiritual practice. Listening is worship. Showing up for one another is sunnah. Justice is the breath of faith. Our work is healing-centered — we tend to the wounds of racism, displacement, and disinvestment while we build the power to end them.
The Four Rs
One-to-one conversations are the foundation of every campaign and every congregation.
Honoring what our people already know, build, and survive — leadership is everywhere.
Moving money, time, and skill to where families are organizing themselves.
Healing harm in our own communities while we hold institutions accountable.
Leadership development is our mission.
Every program, training, and campaign is also a vehicle for forming new organizers — especially young Muslims who carry the next chapter of this work in Houston.
